Dry eyes are one of the most common eye complaints our office receives, but the increased use of computers, televisions, phones, and other screens over the past several years has greatly increased the number of people coming to us. Fortunately, there are several ways to treat dry eyes. We at Optical Expression in Scottsdale and Phoenix, AZ, know a lot about Dry Eye Treatment.

In Home Methods

Over the counter eye drops: These drops are available in nearly every major store, and they’re rather simple to use. Ideally, try to anticipate when your eyes will get dry and use them before symptoms start.

Eyeglasses: You may need to take out your contact lenses more frequently and switch to eyeglasses until the problem goes away. This is usually the case if your symptoms are related to allergies. If you don’t wear corrective lenses, consider wearing sunglasses when you go outdoors. Eyes will often become dry when exposed to extreme temperatures or high amounts of wind. Even if it isn’t sunny outside, the extra layer of protection that sunglasses offer can go a long way towards preventing dry eyes.

Optometrist Visit

Prescriptions: Prescription eye drops and oral medications to control allergies can both help with dry eyes. Make an appointment and ask an eye doctor on our team if you’re a good candidate for these medications.

Surgery: If your dry eyes are caused by an issue with your tear ducts such as a blockage, it may be possible to perform a quick surgery to fix the problem. Keep in mind that this is usually a last resort; most people will see results by protecting their eyes and using eye drops.
